Introduction
In
the context of rapid moral decline, value education has come to acquire
increasing prominence in educational discussions at all levels during
recent times in our country.
The
crisis of values our society is passing through demands more explicit
and deliberate educational efforts towards value development.
This
issue was projected as one of the national priorities in the National
Policy on Education (NPE), 1986.
The
Policy declares: “The growing concern over the erosion of essential values and an
increasing cynicism in society has brought to focus the need for
readjustments in the curriculum in order to make education a forceful
tool for the cultivation of social and moral values.”
The
University Grants Commission, in pursuance of the National Policy of
Education 1986 and its programme of action, in its letter No.
F.23-1/2003(ASC / CR) dated.27 May 2003 has identified Ramakrishna Institute
of Moral and Spiritual Education, Mysore, as a resource centre to
conduct two value orientation courses each of four weeks
duration for College / University Lecturers.
Objectives

To analyze the essential principles and values of education.

To analyze the role and function of lecturer in strengthening culture and values in education.

To develop value sensitivities.
-
To appreciate the significance of the value dimension in college and the outside world where
they live in.

To work on the general improvement of the atmosphere in educational institutions.

To formulate institutional action plan for inculcating 'value education’ among students.

Candidates can opt for any one of the above durations.
Eligibility
In-service
teachers who are serving as lecturers, with not less than two years of
continuous service in any faculty in Universities/ Colleges, included in
the list of colleges under section 2(f) of the UGC Act, even though they
may not yet be fit under 12-B of the UGC Act are eligible to
participate. The teachers of colleges, which do not come within the
purview of Section 2(f), but have been affiliated to a University for at
least 5 years, are also permitted to participate in this course.
As
per U.G.C rule, every participant shall pay an admission fee
(non-refundable) of Rs.500/- at the time of admission. The Institute
will reimburse the traveling allowance (Bus fare or I Class Train fare
for beyond 500 Km) for outstation candidates (to and fro from their place
of work) and also provide free board and lodging.
General
Instructions
The
course is fully residential and only vegetarian food will be served. To
enable the participating teachers to utilize the course to their maximum
extent and also contribute, the selected candidates will be provided
with the course content before joining the course. On successful
completion of the programme each candidate will be issued a certificate
in the UGC designed format.
